This video covers a modified version of the finger-jointed boxes from my previous video. This tray will automatically calculate the number of fingers needed, and the fingers will automatically resize themselves, based on the dimensions of ...
Adobe Illustrator: Importing multi-layer Fusion360 DXF files
Переглядів 10 тис.6 років тому
In this video I am showing the process that I go through to bring in the DXF files that are generated through the Autodesk DXF post processor in the Fusion 360 CAM module. I am using Christopher Masto’s Illustrator configuration for my Glowforge templates, so I highly recommend his video here: ua-cam.com/video/VCRj05EsZO0/v-deo.html

The model might be new and improved, but the audio quality in this video is definitely worse than the original!

Hello, is there a parameter that will allow you to change the thickness of the material so that everything works?

Hi! Great video! However I am having trouble getting some of the equations that you are using in your parameters to work in my Fusion360. Im not sure if this is because this was made 5 years ago and maybe some of the "rules" have changed? I need to use this process often in my work so any help would be appreciated, thanks!

It's a shame that fusion 360 is so outdated with laser cutring features. Freecad with laser cut interoocking mod is so convenient you can do this in 3min automatically

A big thank-you for the clear no-nonsense, straight to the point video. I've had success following through your video for the third time . This has everything to say about my abilities with following instructions and is no reflection on the instructions in the video, which are absolutely superb. - Many, many thanks for your generosity.

Wouldn’t you need the notch holes slightly bigger than the fingers, to account for real world fitting?

This comment might not hit the sight of the author of the video after 4 years, but wouldn't it be easier to make the fingers part of the panel sketches and extrude them as a whole to make the component?

If you were to select the faces on the other side would that eliminate the arrows pointing to the origin and thus get rid of any need to use negative numbers? Or is it always pointing towards the origin point as a coincidence. It's not a big deal but it just seems like it always wants to go the exact opposite way you need it to and the only reason I can think of that it would always do that is because it also happens to be the origin point for XYZ.

This is really great example how to use parametrization and build scalable design. Thank you! One feedback I do have is that for both pairs of side panels it would be better to build them as a component and instantiate twice - much less work. Building bottom as component would also be good - RULE #1 :-)

well, it is 3years you did not post, anyway, I ask me if it is possible in your Box configuration to put a parameter to define a small (0,1 other 0,2mm) space between the finger joint that make it easier to mount (spaciely with huge box) and dog bones for cnc (this not a problem I think) thanks so much to take time to explain our little brain those complex parameter

Here's a puzzle for you (me). How to offset the face of all "female" (or "male") notches/tabs such that when CNC machines they fit without interference. Simply adding an overcut to the CNC process would overcut the entire perimeter, so tabs would get shorter and notches would get deeper and wider, which is generally problematic since you aren't controlling what gets offset. And some parts, like sides have a combination of tabs/notches to adjust and some to leave alone (bottom or side). I'm trying to figure out the best way to accomplish. My problem is since the previous part is used to cut the next part, I'd have to add the face offsets to the previous part after the cut. And since it's not doe to the original feature, parameters fail if notches are added. Maybe make 2 bodies for the "cutting" parts, one that does the cutting, one that has the offsets applied. Only CNC the offset ones. <scratches head>. Grateful for suggestions.

HM: Great video, thanks. Hope you are still watching for comments. I was about to create the same thing for my high school robotics team to use/learn. With my CNC router these exact fit notches are a problem. They become too tight interference fits. Any tricks to shaving a few thou off the notches or tabs so I can fit my parts together without binding?

Quick tip: Most of Fusion 360's textboxes automatically convert units, so you could type in: 0.125" and it would have automatically figured out 3.175mm for you. (unfortunately 1/8" doesn't work, but 1"/8 does work!)

Thanks for the great design. I used your design to create a sort of 'bookend' (a box with only 4 out of 6 sides), but with the 2 sides which are vertical, I have a problem. The 2D contour selection doesn't 'catch' the contour of the face. I think because they are not 'flat' on the surface. What step did I miss?
